I've just finished making this poster. I wanted to find a simple and visual way to express how to eat well (see my side bar for more information about traditional foods), in a format that both kids and adults can easily refer to. I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. It's far from perfect - I found it fiddly to make. It's a slightly simplified version of my understanding about how to eat well. But I think it serves its purpose. Leave a comment if you want a higher resolution version to print and stick on your fridge.
By the way, the food pyramid was developed by the agricultural industry, not by nutritionists. It does not reflect a healthy way to eat at all. After following the general ideas for years I was sick pretty much all the time.
After I started eating traditional foods as described above, my health picked right up. These days I'm rarely sick, and when I am I usually throw it off quickly and easily. A lot of weird little problems melted away - my warts disappeared, my tinea (foot fungus) which I'd had for fifteen years went away, my period pain (which used to be devastating) turned into mild twinges, and my periods became regular for the first time in my life. The best thing about traditional foods is that with lots of good fat and protein, I feel satisfied all the time and don't crave sweets and junk food the way I used to.
Eating plenty of good fat won't make you fat - its the carbohydrates and sugars that do that. So if you are worried about your waistline go easy on carbs and desserts.
You can access a higher resolution version ready for printing, via my sidebar.
We would LOVE a high Res version, please! That is absolutely awesome! Thankyou :)
